STEM Highlights

Our 8th grade STEM classes designed, wrote, created, arranges and digitally colored webpages by using two types of code (HTML and CSS) to insert content and stylize their pages. They had to focus on a topic they felt confident to write about. Create a main heading, 3 subsections, and also added images to hep convey their message. Mr. Mohler is very proud of his and below are links to their view their webpages.

Keystone and PSSA Update

This is to provide your family with important information about Pennsylvania State testing including PSSA for students in grades 3 through 8 and Keystone for students in grades 7-11 in Algebra; students in grades 9-11 in Biology, and students in grades 10-11 in Literature. CASD understands the many emotions invoked by testing. The district must adhere to all state regulations surrounding testing. Below, please find information pertaining to Winter and Spring PSSA/Keystone State Assessments:

Winter Keystone Assessments: Winter Keystone Assessments will NOT be administered. With the recent return to hybrid learning the District believes that more in-time instruction is necessary before administering State-Wide assessments. While we are able to opt out of the Winter Keystone administration, we will have to administer these assessments in the Spring.

Spring PSSA and Keystone Assessments: At this current time, students are still expected to take the PSSA and Keystone assessments. The PSSA assessment window is April 19th through May 7th for Language Arts, Math, and Science. The Keystone assessment window is from May 17th to May 28th for Literature, Algebra I, and Biology. Please be aware that beginning with the Class of 2023, students are required to attain proficiency on all three Keystone Exams or successfully complete one of five pathways to graduate from high school.

Many of you can recall that a decision was made to waive the required state testing due to the Pandemic. No such waiver has been provided this year; however, if in the upcoming weeks a decision from the Federal government or the Pennsylvania Department of Education to cancel State-Wide testing is made, this information will be relayed to our families as soon as possible.

Please be reminded that per board policy 127, students can only be exempted from state testing for religious reasons. If your family feels strongly about state testing, CASD encourages you to reach out to your local legislature to make your voice heard. It is important for our government officials to understand the feelings of concerned citizens
